Look And See!
YES, IT DID - CAN ANYTHING GOOD COME OUT OF SMITH ADDITION AND HARRISBURG?

Just Add Your Place Of Birth:
Reading from the Bible. John chapter 1:
The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the Prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Many are still asking this very same question today, about our places of birth:
“Jesus, son of Joseph from Nazareth” – I am always glad when Joseph gets a mention in the story. It always seems that his part in being Jesus’s father is somewhat overlooked, but here is Jesus – now a grown man – who has been brought up by his parents, and is now ready to begin his ministry…. And what a ministry it would be; a ministry so great that we are still inspired by it 3000 years later. It might just be that we have Joseph to thank for helping to prepare Jesus for His life’s work.
Jesus decides to go to Galilee…. He tells Philip to follow Him, and Philip is anxious to tell others about This Man Jesus.
So Philip finds a man named Nathanael and says “Nathanael – we’ve found the one we’ve been looking for…. The promised one… it’s Him: Jesus of Nazareth!”
And what does Nathanael say? “Can anything good come out of Nazareth or many are still asking Smith Addition or your family?”
It’s pretty obvious that Nathanael doesn’t have a very high opinion of people who come from Nazareth!
Maybe they had a reputation…..” they’re different”….. “they’re not like us”….”It’s a bit rough there”
It seems Nathanael was ready to miss out on the chance of meeting Jesus just because of where he came from, or maybe because of how he looked.
Thankfully Philip persuades Nathanael by saying to him “Come and see”
How often do we do the same thing? We look at someone and within a split second, we’ve made judgments about who they are, because of how they look or sound. Yes, I come from a place called Smith Addition/ Harrisburg, the Parents of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Sr, Winfree
Sometimes we don’t even need to see them. Just knowing where they come from is enough!
“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
Well for that matter, can anything good come out of Houston, or Texas, or the other side of the tracks, or your part of the World? Of course, it can! We know it can!
Any person we meet is one of GOD'S precious children…. And that person might have words or deeds which will change our lives if we will only get to know them.
The world would be a much happier place if we stopped making judgments about people without knowing all the facts, wouldn’t it?…. And if we didn’t judge people based on how they look or where they come from.
One of the greatest ironies it seems to me is that if Jesus turned up here in the USA today many people who call themselves Christian would declare Him to be an illegal immigrant and try to deport Him without even listening to Him – just because of where He came from and how he looked!
And if Jesus preached some of the things He preached 3000 years ago today here in the Houston, I wonder whether He would get a better reception?
“Can anything good come out of the parents of Mr. & Mrs. Otis & Gladys Winfree?”…. at least we know the answer to that is yes!
Can anything good come out of your family, or your town, or your city? Well, we’ll never know if we judge them before we meet them!
Come and see…..
We’ve all said it haven’t we? “Well, I won’t stay where I’m not welcome!”…. but what if the place you’re not welcome is the only place you have to go?
Can anything good come out of those far away places? Of course!
Perhaps the better question to ask ourselves is “can anything good out of ME?”
Can anything good come out of US?
Come and see….
This is the time and season for us to prove more than ever that the answer to that question is ‘yes’!
Whether of your skin color, wealth or the lack that of, or whether you educated or uneducated, you’re still a part of this body of Jesus Christ – an important part of His beloved family. My hope and prayer is that this season our spiritual family will go even further: that we become even better known for our welcome… known as a place where anyone can come to worship and be part of Jesus Christ saving grace community. Anyone of any age, color, creed, sexuality meaning men and women…If you will covenant to worship with us in peace and to help to build up His church body and to make the world a better place, then you are welcome here in this ministry - - and you’re just as important as anyone else.
And I pray that should anyone ask the question: “Can anything good come out of Apostle James R Winfree Sr or you?” that the reply will be a resounding “YES – just take a look and see what GOD has done and is doing, and it continues to do so - - for there we together worship a GOD in Spirit and Truth, who welcomes All!”
Amen
